Media Invite: Celebration of Youth Awards
Basildon District Council and Essex County Council are hosting a 'Celebration of Youth' awards ceremony in Basildon's Towngate Theatre on Wednesday 4th November from 7pm - 10pm. The awards will celebrate young people's (10 - 19 years old) achievements whilst participating in various youth projects run by Essex County Council, Basildon District Council and voluntary groups across Basildon. The ceremony will consist of the following award catergories, each of which has been sponsored by a local business: Volunteering- Sponsored by Festival Leisure Park This award will recognise a young person who has undertaken unpaid work for the benefit of the community. Improved Behaviour- Sponsored by SELEX Galileo This award will recognise a young person who has made a positive effort to change their attitude and behaviour towards others and their environment. Act of Courage/overcoming adversity- Sponsored by New Campus Basildon This award will recognise a young person who has demonstrated responsibility and acted courageously in a potentially difficult situation. Inspirational Role Model- Sponsored by Basildon Green Business Forum This award will recognise a young person who is looked up to by others as an inspiration and has made a positive contribution to their life. Achievement in Sport/Physical Activity-Sponsored by 'Get Out There' Programme This award will recognise a young person who has excelled in a particular sport or physical activity. Achievement in Art/Culture- sponsored by SEEVIC College This award will recognise a young person who has excelled in art form or in today's culture. Worker Recognition- Sponsored by Essex Auto Group This award will recognise a worker within the community making a positive contribution towards young people. Basildon District Councillor Andrew Baggott, Cabinet member for Community said: "Basildon District Council is proud to support an event that highlights just how inspirational our young people are. "All too often young people are portrayed negatively, so it is great that the Celebration of Youth Awards reminds us of the valuable contribution so many young people make to our community." County Councillor Stephen Castle, Cabinet Member for Education said: "These awards are a great opportunity for us to say thank you for all the hard work young people have put into these projects and also celebrate their achievements and successes." |
