Basildon Council are running a free event for over-50s, to help them improve well-being and become more active. The day of activities is being held on Saturday 23 January.

The one day Active Plus event which is taking place at the Towngate Theatre is being supported by Sport Essex and is open to all residents over the age of 50. A range of activities are on offer including; free health checks, pool and table tennis, art classes, salsa lessons, and Wii Fit. Gloucester Park will also be involved in the day with free swimming and free cycling on offer for participants.

Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Arts and Leisure said "Active plus is a day which will give the over 50's a chance to come and have a go at various activities. We have everything ranging from cooking demonstrations to cycle rides so there really is something for everyone and I hope that residents will come along give it a go and meet other similar minded people".

All day events include:
9.30am - 4.30pm Free Swimming all day (Gloucester Park)
10.30am - 4.30pm Free Health Checks SW Essex NHS
10.30am - 4.30pm Physiotherapy advice
10.30am - 4.30pm Pool and Table Tennis
10.30am - 4.30pm Short Mat Bowls
10.30am - 4.30pm Wii Fit

Individual sessions include:
10.30am - 11.30am Art Classes
12pm - 2.30pm Cooking Demonstration
11am - 12pm Pilates
12pm - 12.45pm Beginners Cycling Session (free cycle hire)
12pm - 1pm Seated Exercise
1pm - 2pm Local cycling routes tour (free cycle hire)
1pm - 2pm Fighting fit
2pm - 3pm Salsa step
2.30pm - 3.30pm Walking group and running group
3pm - 4pm Belly Dancing
