The SX Urban Games comes to Basildon
Basildon Council is pleased to announce that Gloucester Park will be host to the Urban Games made up of a variety of different sports and activities taking place on the 28th August.
The Basildon SX Urban Games is part of one of 6 events that is being funded by Basildon District Council, Sport Essex, the Essex Legacy team and Positive Futures. The Urban Games is a great tool to inspire young people to be involved in positive, physical activities and therefore has recently been awarded the Olympic 2012 Inspire Mark.
Here in Basildon teenagers will have the chance to try street sports such as skateboarding, bmx-ing, street 20 cricket, archery, rock-it-ball, boxing and hiphop dancing, proving you don't need to play mainstream sport to be active. Professional skateboarders, football and basketball freestylers such as Colin Neel will be there to wow the crowd with demonstrations taking place throughout the day.
The Urban Games is not just about sport but also music giving young people the opportunity to get involved in music production workshops and for those who just want to sit back and relax DJ's, bands, beatboxers, and dance crew Kayzar will also be providing additional entertainment for the duration of the event.
The Street/Sport aspect of the event inspires young people to take part in recreational sport in an informal way, without the pressure of competition and without the fear of ridicule.
