Affordable Prices (Sporting Village)

It has been revealed that costs for core activities at the Basildon Sporting Village will be the same as its other smaller leisure facilities throughout the District.

A standard swim at the Sporting Village will cost £3.35 for adults in April 2010, £2.05 for senior citizens and young people aged 16 and under or £1.70 for disabled users and people on a low income.  This will be the same as Pitsea or Wickford swimming pools.  The charges are currently £3.30, £2 and £1.65, with the 5 pence increase due to the rise of VAT to 20% in January 2011.

This compares with the current charges of £3.80 for a standard swim at Brentwood's pools, and £4 at the Chelmsford Riverside Centre.  A senior citizen swim at the Chelmsford Riverside Centre is £2.70 compared to £2 at the Basildon Sporting Village.

Standard table tennis hire for an hour will be £5.80, £3.50 for senior citizens and young people aged 16 or under, and £2.90 for disabled users and people on a low income.  Badminton hire for an hour will be £12/£7.20/£6.05

Duncan Jefford, South East Director for SLM who will operate the facility said:  "We want to attract significant community use of the new centre and therefore will make sure that all of our charges are affordable.  Our slogan is "Everyone Active" and we want that to be true in Basildon.

"We will offer both pay and play charges and a range of membership schemes that offer discounted use for regular users. We will also offer the Council's reduced price scheme for those charges listed above in respect of the young, the elderly, people on low incomes and disabled people."
