Pride at local club's Common Wealth achievements
Three local gymnasts and their Head Coach have been selected for the Commonwealth Games that will take place in Delhi in October.
Danny Lawrence, Reiss Beckford and Max Whitlock from the South Essex Gymnastics Club (SEGC) have been selected in the Team GB men's artistic gymnasts' team. Scott Hann, the Head Coach as SEGC has been selected as the Team GB coach for this squad.
Cllr Kevin Blake, Basildon Council's cabinet member for leisure and the arts says: "This is a very proud moment for Basildon and the South Essex Gymnastics Club. What a fantastic achievement this is, and just goes to show what incredible sporting talent that we have in the area. Three of the five men's artistic gymnastics team that will travel to India train daily in Basildon. We wish them all the luck and success for the competition, and hope that they can bring some medals home with them!
"It is great news for local sport, and I hope that the club can build on this when they make the Sporting Village their new home in April 2011."
The Commonwealth Games take place between 3rd and 14th October in Delhi.
