Council team up with police to deliver football coaching sessions
IN a bid to curb anti-social behaviour in Billericay's Lake Meadows park Basildon Council and the police are teaming up to deliver football coaching sessions.
Basildon councillors along with Neighbourhood Sergeant Cath Henderson from Billericay Police station decided it was about time something was done to reduce anti-social behaviour in the park and give young people in the area something positive to do with their time.
After consultation with the young people a football outreach pilot project was launched at the park at the beginning of August and was a huge hit in the first week with over 50 young people attending the sessions.
Councillor Andrew Baggott, cabinet member responsible for Community, said: "Anti-social behaviour among some of the young people who use the park has been an issue for some time now so I'm delighted the Council has joined up with the police to offer these football sessions.
"The sessions have proved popular and are fun as well as providing something positive for young people to do with their time."
Councillor Kevin Blake, cabinet member responsible for Leisure, added: "These sessions are a great way of keeping these young people out of trouble and improving their confidence and encouraging them to lead healthy and active lifestyles."
The sessions are taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at Lake Meadows Park from 6.30 to 7.30pm and will continue until late September when the light closes in.
