The Games come to Gloucester Park

Young athletes from across the local area are being encouraged to come to Gloucester Park North on 23 July and take part in 'The Games 2010'.

The event open to people between the ages of 8 and 19 will give participants the opportunity to take part in a range of athletics challenges such as 100m sprints, long jump, shot putt and much more.

Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Arts and Leisure said "With the Sporting Village facility well under way and London 2012 on our doorstep, Basildon is a great location to take up athletics. This event is an opportunity for young people of all abilities to come together and have a go at an athletic discipline under the eye of professional coaches. Those taking part will also be able to see the impressive progress of the new Sporting Village from the athletics track."

In addition to the games there will also be a series of paragames events on the day open to disabled participants up to the age of 25.

Prizes will be available throughout the day for those finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as special awards for sporting spirit.

The Games run on the 23 July from 10am - 3pm and entry forms should be returned to Gloucester Park Swimming Pool. Entry into the event is £3 and competitors can enter an unlimited number of disciplines.
