Summer Games at Eversley


SCHOOLS from across East Basildon will be heading to the Eversley Leisure Centre this May as the third annual LDG Summer Games comes to Pitsea.

The five day event running between May 24 and 28 will see pupils from all 23 East Basildon schools participating in an exciting and varied sports programme.

Jointly organised by Basildon District Council's coaching staff and the East Basildon LDG Extended Services Team, a delivery group set up to promote community cohesion in and around schools, the Games is all about promoting the importance of sport and healthy lifestyles.

Lisa Smith, Creative Activities Coordinator for the LDG said: "The Summer Games offers pupils from across East Basildon the opportunity to come together and participate on a competitive level and will promote the importance of sport and healthy lifestyles."

Pupils will take part in 10 events including Long jump, hurdles, discuss, javelin and team games such as Dodgeball and 5-a-side Football.

Following the completion of the event an awards ceremony will be will held with the final results revealed and medals presented. Individuals will also be rewarded with medals presented each day for the most outstanding pupil contribution and for the person who shows the most sportsmanship.

Council Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Leisure and the Arts said: "I would like to congratulate the LDG for putting on such a worthwhile event and the Eversley Leisure Centre is the perfect venue to host such an event, I wish all the participants the best of luck!"
