Young footballers turn out for half term tournament in Gloucester Park

MORE than a hundred young people descended on Gloucester Park to play in a half term 5 'a' side football tournament today.

The Football Street League Tournament is open to 12 to 17-year-olds and is held every Friday of the school holidays.

Friday's event was funded by the Basildon Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) and hosted by Positive Futures and Active Soccer & Sports Academy.

Angela Surrey, Project Coordinator at Positive Futures, said: "Every Friday of the school holidays these kids are here waiting for the tournament to start.
"They are so enthusiastic and the word must be spreading to their friends because numbers continue to grow. On Friday we had around 130 young people taking part in the tournament"

Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Arts, added: "It's great to see so many young people getting involved in the tournament.
"Not only does this give them something fun to do in the school holidays but it encourages them to adopt a healthy active lifestyle."

The next 5 'a' side Football Street League Tournament will be held at Gloucester Park on Saturday March 13 from 12 to 4pm.

There will be a guest appearance from football freestyler, Colin Nell. (www.cnfreestylers.com).
