Get on your bike this February
CYCLING fanatics are being encouraged to get on their bikes this February and take part in the Basildon Festival of Cycling
The week long festival taking place from the 21 to the 25 February will see events at the Eastgate Centre, Town Square and Gloucester Park and will feature everything from cycling lessons to BMX shows, indoor racing and free bike check ups.
Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Leisure and the arts said: "Cycling is one of the best ways of getting fit and through this week long event there are lots of different opportunities to get involved. I am very happy to be helping to champion this worthwhile festival and I hope residents will take the opportunity to come along and take part".
Dr Bike will be on hand providing free check-ups for peoples bikes, and there will be the opportunity to win a brand new bike throughout the week.
There will also be opportunities for parents and children to take part in the family bike basics session, or the chance to try your hand at bicycle polo.
Basildon Council, Essex Roads Cycling Club and British Cycling have also teamed up to deliver a special Mountain Bike race course in Gloucester Park.
And there will be a number of performances by the M.A.D stunt team who will be performing stunts and tricks and proving coaching to anyone looking to learn how to perform stunts.
The festival is open to people of all ages and abilities and more information including a full schedule of events can be found at www.cyclebasildon.co.uk
