HANDS ON COURT AT BASILDON SPORTING VILLAGE

Handball is being showcased in a european style tournament at Basildon Sporting Village on Saturday the 2nd July and locals can get to experience it all for free.

Everyone Active, who manages the facility in partnership with Basildon Borough Council, is running a handball tournament to help promote the sport locally and offer an exciting spectacle for the Basildon crowd.  Everyone Active has worked closely with England Handball and Basildon Sports Twinning Association to bring the showcase together

The Great Danes, an East London club, who are current English League and Cup Champions, will be taking on the might from France and Germany.  CS Meaux and Turnverein 1898 are clubs from Basildon's twin towns of Meaux, near Paris and Heligenhaus, near Dusseldorf respectively.  The two European clubs' involvement was arranged off the back of a 'twinning conference' in 2010 that looks to encourage partnerships between the towns.

The tournament will run between 1.30pm and 4.30pm and will see three, 40 minute games played.  The event will provide a local opportunity to experience a high standard of the game for free.  The event is free but it is recommended to book in advance as there is limited seating available.

During the warm up periods, before and between games, there will also be an opportunity for children watching the event to try their hands at the sport.  Youngsters will be invited to take to the court, encouraged to throw a handball and have a chance to shoot at the goals.  A qualified coach will also be on hand to offer advice and guidance to any handball stars of the future.
